I also bought one and found that the "slide switch" was defective when I went to use it.

I bought one of these a few months ago, and when I tried to use it after a few times, it no longer worked. I set it aside, and have now just discovered why. The slide switch is broken i.e. it does not move the inner part to allow the different settings. I will not buy another.

I bought this lamp over 20 years ago from a Walmart in Toronto Ontario, Canada, and it's still going strong. Amazing!
